Bradford Reed

The 2008 harvest is Brad McCarthy's 21st working as a winemaker. We are currently carrying the first two wines bottled under Brad's new, independent label – Bradford Reed Wines – a 2006 Merlot (100% King family) and a 2006 Meritage (all Virginia grown grapes). Earlier this year Brad started working as a "virtual" winemaker, no longer tied exclusively to one winery. He is making his wines at three local wineries now. This is an exciting time for him as he again has the autonomy to work more actively with other local winemakers, like he did prior to his Blenheim days, and also exercises the creative freedom to make and bottle only what he considers to be the very best Virginia wines.

Bradford Reed 2006 Merlot
This is a ripe, intense, single vineyard Merlot (100% King Family Vineyards). Its deep purple color alludes to its full flavor. This wine has the flavor of a lot of black fruits with an earthy undertone. Medium body with supple tannins and good acidity. It pairs well with a broad range of foods.

2006 Meritage Bradford Reed 2006 Virginia Meritage
This Virginia Meritage has the classic Bordeaux flavors. It is a supple wine with a cedar edge to the currant and spicy flavors. 45% Cabernet Franc, 42% Petit Verdot and 13% Merlot. It has a full, complex flavor that will take the first glass to fully explore.

Brad's Stickdog Reisling & Bradford Reed 2008 Virginia Chardonnay

New in 2009 are three wines: a Riesling, a Chardonnay, and a Cabernet Franc. All three of these wines are 100% Ox Eye vineyard, grown by John Kiers, with whom Brad has worked for a decade now. The 2008 vintage promises great things!
